Order documents of civil-status

As of 1 October 2019, thanks to the eGovernment Portal of the Canton of Fribourg, it is possible to order electronic civil status documents bearing a qualified digital signature, thereby making the Canton of Fribourg the first to offer this new service of cyberadministration. These electronic documents are equivalent to those extracts of civil registry records drawn up on paper and are recognized as such by the competent authorities.

As of 1 October 2019, for the first time in Switzerland, it has become possible to order and to pay for an authentic document of civil registry in electronic form thanks to the eGovernment Portal of the Canton of Fribourg. This online service eliminates the need to appear in person with the added advantage of having the requested document delivered to you directly via the eGovernment Portal. Should you prefer to receive a hardcopy document delivered by the postal service, you can nonetheless still place you order online via this Portal.

The electronic document of civil registry bears the qualified digital signature of a civil registrar along with a confirmation of accreditation. It is equal in value to a document drawn up on paper, and must be transmitted electronically to the competent authority in order for it to be recognized as valid.

You can verify the authenticity of an electronic civil-registry document at any time by using the Confederation’s Validator application.

Meanwhile, it still remains possible to come to the Civil Registry Office in person to obtain the documents needed, should you so prefer.
